Solar Car Champions!!!
Three years running we have been the regional champs! 2006 saw our 'Speed Car' destroy the competition! And finally... WE WON THE 2006 GRAND FINAL!!! Well done to the year 6 boys who showed tremendous team work and sportsmanship. :-)
After last year's success for the best design for the Solar Star Spaceship, we have two winners with the Solar Dash (Fastest car) and Solar School Bus (Best Design).
Graveney has become the first school to win both categories. In fact, the car was so fast, the judges had to check that we were not using any extra motors!!!
Since the regional heats, Graveney went on to the countywide finals where we were beaten by the eventual winners in the fastest car challenge and achieved 2nd place for the best design. Well done Year 6!!!
Already we have plans for next year...
The One Word Storytime.
Starting with a random selection of genres, eg. Sci Fi, Romance, Newspaper Report, Diary, Fantasy etc. Each pupil has to add a word to the continuing storyline.
The task was to produce a romantic story by giving only one
word from each pupil.
This is the rather bizarre and amusing story that we produced...
As you can see, the story is always unpredictable and quite often funny! From these stories you can then focus on how to improve the story with better choice words and punctuation.
For our Harvest festival we produced 'Harvest Poems'
Our Harvest Poem - Performed by Austen Group
Corn glowing in the summer sun
One farmer in his combine
Can’t stop until it’s done
A joy to work in sunshine.
Field mice scamper through the barn
Snuffle around for seeds
Life sings across the farm
A pleasant life indeed.
Tractors growling through the fields
To plough the ground again
And hope next year that nature yields
A land of golden grain
My Harvest Poem – Written by Panthia (Year 6)
Now that the wheat
Is all ready now
It’s turned out neat
And is starting to bow.
The brown rabbits hide,
Skip though the corn,
The Farmer they’ve spied
Up early this dawn.
The golden sun gleaming
Its sliver rays are
Projecting warm beamings
That go out so far.
The harvester starts
With a rattle and whine
Through the field it departs
In perfect straight line
Now the harvest has ended
And the wheat is all clear
The crop was just splendid
Lets give a big cheer!
